Last year, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott were the talk of the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys duo put the league on notice as they both far exceeded expectations in their rookie campaigns leading the team to the top seed in the NFC while creating a lot of buzz for a bright future in Dallas.

This season, however, has gone a little differently for Prescott and company. The Cowboys will not be returning to the postseason, and the sophomore slump he wanted to avoid was unavoidable. Although the season will end for the Cowboys after Week 17's showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles, Prescott wants to play and finish an otherwise disappointing 2017 campaign on a high note, via Drew Davidson of Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“I’m playing. It’s important to me,” Prescott said. “I hope it’s important to my teammates, this organization. I’ll be damned if I’ll finish the ’17 season with that performance last week. It’s big for me to go in and finish this season, like I said, this team, this offense, the right way and the way we want to.”

In 15 games so far this season, Prescott has led the Cowboys to an 8-7 record. Not an awful sophomore stretch for the second-year quarterback, but not what was intended after such an impressive rookie campaign.

Prescott's numbers are down across the board in comparison to his first season with the exception of running the football. The 24-year-old has thrown for 3,146 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions while rushing for 341 yards and six touchdowns.

The Cowboys will be playing for pride in Week 17 as they hope to derail the Eagles' hopes of having any momentum heading into the playoffs. Philadelphia will likely be playing quarterback Nick Foles in this divisional matchup as they want to get him up to speed before their postseason run with Carson Wentz ruled out for the rest of the way.
