Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has always been one of the youngest guys in the position room. However, that is the case no longer with the two other quarterbacks on the roster his age or younger in Cooper Rush and Mike White.

It is common for teams to pick up a veteran to back up any young franchise quarterback. According to the Dallas Morning News, executive vice president Stephen Jones is happy the team has started a youth movement under center.

“[White’s] got some serious arm talent,” Jones said. “As I said, we’ve got a young quarterback coach in Kellen Moore. That quarterback room may be as young as any in the league. That is the direction we want to go. I don’t see us adding a veteran type quarterback. We’re going to let Cooper [Rush] and Mike really compete there, and push Dak in terms of getting his competitive juices flowing.

“I’m thrilled with that group of guys and look forward to seeing it play out. He’s got some sneaky mobility on top of the fact. He’s very accurate and certainly a competitor. It’ll be a fun room to watch evolve over time.”

It is a different path than the one Dallas has taken in the past. When Prescott was first starting to come along the team found it beneficial to have a guy like Tony Romo around for him to learn from. However, it appears the Cowboys are looking to create a more competitive feel to practice.

There is no question that Prescott is the franchise quarterback moving forward. Still, it seems Dallas is hoping that by ringing in other young gunslingers that this will keep the pressure him to continue improving. Although Rush became the backup last season, he will be battling for such duties with White after he was taken in the fifth round of this year's NFL Draft.
