As they watch their rival Philadelphia Eagles face the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs — thanks to losing the NFC East — the Dallas Cowboys have decided they will not retain the coach that led them to their demise of 2019. Jason Garrett is out.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX, the Cowboys informed Garrett on Sunday that they are officially moving on from him. It's a done deal and official for both parties.

Now, the Cowboys will move on to find their next coach. They began interviews before finalizing Garrett's leave, as they have interviewed both Mike McCarthy and Marvin Lewis for the head coach vacancy. Both are experienced NFL head coaches.

It's fair to wonder where the Cowboys will find their new head coach. They may not stay in the NFL, as there is potential in the collegiate ranks. Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley and Baylor's Matt Rhule are hot head-coaching candidates and could be on the radar of Jerry Jones and Co.

There is also the possibility of promoting from within. Passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach has earned looks from other teams as a potential NFL head coach.

Nonetheless, the Cowboys are moving on from Garrett. Though once the NFL Coach of the Year (2017), in Dallas, most of his tenure with the Cowboys was mediocre. The Cowboys won two playoff games in 10 seasons under Garrett, going 85-67 in the process.

Whoever is the Cowboys' new head coach will land with the burden of massive expectations set by leading the NFL's most widely recognized franchise, one that entered 2019 with Super Bowl aspirations.
