With all the extensions that the Dallas Cowboys need to get done, it appears that Jaylon Smith has been put on the back burner. Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper are heading into the final years of their deal so their contracts have gotten the most attention, but after this season Smith is also a restricted free agent.

According to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys haven't had any discussions with Smith, and instead, plan to place a tender on him after the year.

Smith missed his entire rookie season after suffering a knee injury in the final game of his college career with Notre Dame. Since he missed all that time he didn't accrue enough service time so instead of being an unrestricted free agent, he will be restricted.

If the team does place that second-round tender on him that means they have control over him for two more years so it makes sense they wouldn't try to work out the long-term deal.

Along with getting a deal done with Prescott, and Cooper they also have Ezekiel Elliott needing a new deal and two keep all three of those guys is going to take a lot of money.

After those three are signed and if Smith has big years the next couple of years, he might price himself out of a deal with the Cowboys and he might enter free agency needing a new team.

That would be a good problem to have for Smith because it means he would be in line for a big payday.
