The Dallas Cowboys reached an extension with one of their modern-day rendition of the triplets by locking up running back Ezekiel Elliot earlier in the week. Now, they want to get one done with quarterback Dak Prescott, who elected against spurning training camp for some downtime in Cabo, Mexico.

The Cowboys want to get the extension done sooner rather than later, specifically before the start of the regular season on Sunday against the New York Giants. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones, son of owner Jerry Jones, said the hope is to finish the deal by Sunday.

“In general, yeah, I would say yes on Dak,” he said, per 105.3 FM The Fan's GBag Nation, via Dallas News‘ Calvin Watkins. “I would say very limited on Amari [Cooper] for a range of reasons that will eventually get worked out. Then, we can proceed with him as well. But in general, I would say the dialogue has been pretty good. We're still holding out hope that we can figure out how to come up with a deal by the game on Sunday.”

Jones notes that a deal with two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper is unlikely to be reached by Sunday's contest, but that has been known. It appears as if his deal will come after Prescott's.

The extension with Prescott may be record-breaking. After his draft classmates Jared Goff and Carson Wentz recently reached terms for extensions, the Cowboys may be forced to surpass each of them due to the timing. There have also been reports that Prescott wants closer to $40 million a year.

Whether or not he gets the salary he desires, we'll find out soon.
