The Dallas Cowboys ushered in some significant changes with the hiring of head coach Mike McCarthy. It appears they are now putting the finishing touches on assembling his staff.

According to Lindsay Thiry of ESPN.com, former Los Angeles Rams running backs coach Skip Peete is being hired for the same job in Dallas.

The Cowboys already poached special teams coordinator John Fassel from a Rams coaching staff that is also in the midst of some serous changes this offseason. It seems they did not have to look much further in order to find their next running backs coach.

Peete was hired as running backs coach by then-head coach Jeff Fisher when the team officially relocated to Los Angeles. Despite the change in regime the following year, he remained as one of the few holdovers upon the arrival of head coach Sean McVay thanks to the work he had done with running back Todd Gurley. It certainly paid huge dividends after Gurley was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2017.

Although there were a number of factors that attributed to Gurley's underwhelming production in the 2019 NFL season, the Rams appeared to be set on bringing in some new faces which resulted in Peete's departure. Fortunately, it did not take the Cowboys very long to capitalize on finding a new mentor for running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Peete will now have the benefit of working with the two best running backs in the league over the last five years in Gurley and Elliott.
