In case you didn't know, how effective you are at drafting kind of plays a role in how successful you are as a team.

Take the Dallas Cowboys, for example.

The Cowboys are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won 10 games and captured the NFC East division title, and, not so coincidentally, Dallas also led the division in the most starters gained from the last five drafts, according to Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic.

This also lines up with how many division crowns the Cowboys have won since 2014, as Dallas has taken home the NFC East title three times since then, the most of any other team in the division.

“Draft wise, I think the Cowboys, obviously they’ve done a good job getting (DeMarcus) Lawrence,” said Mike Lombardi, The Athletic's NFL insider. “Obviously, (Randy) Gregory has had some issues, taking the chance with Jaylon Smith with the knee injury, I think that was huge for them. … As far as team building, they’ve got a great back and a great line, those are important things to have.”

On offense, of course, the Cowboys have a quarterback-running back tandem of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.

Dallas went on to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs this past season before falling to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round the following week.

Overall, the Cowboys have won just three playoff games since 1997, with two of those wins coming over the last five years. Perhaps Dallas' fine drafting ability in recent seasons will lead to more playoff victories in the near future.
