The Dallas Cowboys made clear which wide receiver they preferred when it came to Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. After sending Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, the Cowboys turned and handed a monster contract to Gallup, keeping him in town for five more seasons. According to Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys and Gallup agreed to a five-year, $62.5 million contract on Sunday.

That's a remarkably large deal, especially considering Gallup will be coming off a serious knee injury. The wideout suffered a torn ACL late in the 2022 season, causing him to miss the playoffs. He suffered the injury while catching a touchdown pass against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17.

Gallup didn't undergo surgery on his knee until mid-February, so there's a chance he won't be ready for the start of the regular season. Regardless of the injury, the Cowboys are clearly extremely high on Gallup, throwing the bag at the 26-year-old in order to keep him in town for the foreseeable future.

Under his new deal, Gallup would earn an average annual value of $12.5 million, cashing in on a productive first few seasons in the league. Last season, Gallup was limited to just nine games as a result of various injuries. Gallup caught 35 passes for 445 yards and two touchdowns, including the one on which he tore his ACL. His first three seasons of work were enough to grant him the big deal from Dallas, however, and he'll look to repay their decision with strong production on the field in 2022, in what will hopefully be a bounce-back season.
