The Dallas Cowboys have locked up their tight end of the future. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Cowboys have re-signed Blake Jarwin to a three-year, $24.5 million deal. He'll receive $9.25 million guaranteed in the deal.

The move to re-sign Jarwin became obvious when Dallas reportedly decided to move on from longtime tight end Jason Witten. Witten had been a member of the Cowboys since 2003, but the franchise elected to allow him to become a free agent.

Jarwin caught 31 passes for 365 yards and three touchdowns last season. The 25-year-old mainly came in during receiving personnel packages, while Witten was used in both receiving and blocking packages. The 6-foot-5 tight end holds career receiving numbers of 58 receptions for 672 yards and six touchdowns.

The Cowboys will enter a new era in 2020 with Mike McCarthy as the head coach. McCarthy replaces Jason Garrett, who had served as the team's head coach for the past 10 seasons.

“I realize I'm a free agent too in March. Any time a new staff comes together, I've played a long time, so I realize that may mean somewhere else too,” Witten said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Despite the change in regime, Witten is still holding out hope Dallas could bring him back. Witten had previously been retired for one year before the Cowboys lured him out of retirement in 2019.

Dallas has already begun free agency by placing the franchise tag on quarterback Dak Prescott. Their next move will be to re-sign Pro Bowl wideout Amari Cooper to a new deal.
