The Dallas Cowboys have released wide receiver Allen Hurns, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Hurns played in all 16 games with the Cowboys this past season, logging 20 catches for 295 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He then went on to suffer a gruesome dislocated ankle injury during the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, appearing in all 16 contests and catching 51 passes for 677 yards and six scores.

Then, the following year, Hurns had a breakout season, hauling in 64 receptions for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Since then, injuries have derailed Hurns, as he played in just 11 games with Jaguars in 2016, snaring 35 balls for 477 yards and three scores. He then participated in only 10 contests in 2017, registering 39 catches for 484 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jaguars went on to release Hurns in March 2018, and he signed a two-year deal with the Cowboys three days later.

Dallas' receiving corps will be led by Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Randall Cobb. Rookie Jon'Vea Johnson could be in contention for the No. 4 receiver role, which could be why Hurns was cut.

The Cowboys won 10 games and captured the NFC East division title this past year and went on to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, marking what was just their third postseason victory since 1997. They then proceeded to fall to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round a week later.
