The Dallas Cowboys are meeting with free-agent defensive lineman Malik McDowell on Tuesday, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com.

McDowell, who played his collegiate football at Michigan State University, was originally selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round (35th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

However, not long before 2017 training camp, McDowell was involved in a severe ATV accident and has not played football since suffering those injuries.

He was then released by the Seahawks earlier this month.

McDowell was a force in college, and in his final year at Michigan State during his junior campaign, he registered 34 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. His most impressive season, however, came during his sophomore year, when he racked up 41 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, an interception, a couple of forced fumbles and a defensive touchdown.

The 22-year-old was named second-team All-Big Ten twice, and going into the 2017 NFL Draft, he was considered one of the top defensive lineman in the class.

Talent has never been the issue with McDowell.

Of course, it remains to be seen if McDowell is healthy enough to play at all this coming season, and there have not been any concrete updates on his injury situation.

The Cowboys are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won 10 games and captured the NFC East division title, marking their third division crown since 2014.

They then went on to defeat the Seahawks in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before going on to lose to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round.
