The Dallas Cowboys received some good news on Wednesday with Aldon Smith officially being reinstated by the NFL. While Smith prepares to return, Dallas is still awaiting word on Randy Gregory's reinstatement.

Upon the news of Smith's reinstatement, Peter Schaeffer, Gregory's agent, spoke to ProFootballTalk about his client's progress in getting reinstated:

“We are working through the process,” Peter Schaffer, Gregory’s agent, told PFT. “We are very happy for Aldon and wish him all the luck in the world and successful resumption of his career. It’s refreshing to see the NFL following through on their stated goal to focus more of rehabbing players than punishing players.”

Last season, Gregory was suspended for the entire season due to violating the league's substance-abuse policy. In spite of Gregory's absence, the Cowboys were able to acquire Robert Quinn in a trade.

In his lone season in Dallas, Quinn led the team with 11.5 sacks a season ago. Now, with Quinn no longer on the roster, the Cowboys would prefer to have Gregory available next season.

Back in 2018, Gregory flashed potential as he tallied six sacks and two forced fumbles. However, he would have issues with substances that put a halt to his career.

After Dallas signed Smith, he filed for his reinstatement to the league. At the same time, Gregory informed the NFL that he would like to return after being suspended indefinitely. Almost two weeks ago, the Cowboys gave an update on Gregory's reinstatement.

Since earlier this offseason, the Cowboys have expressed their desire to have both Gregory and Smith with the team next season. At the least, the NFL is allowing Smith to return after five years away from the league. Following Smith's reinstatement, Dallas is patiently awaiting the results for Gregory.
