The Dallas Cowboys know how bad their defense were in the 2020 season, so they are doing everything they can to improve–even by a little–the major area that doomed them in the past campaign.

Now, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cowboys have already a deal in place for free agent safety Malik Hooker. While nothing has been signed yet, Rapoport noted that it is basically a done deal and should be sealed when Hooker passes his physicals.

The Cowboys finished with a 6-10 record in 2020, and much of it can be blamed to their putrid defense. As Stefan Stevenson of Fort Worth Star-Telegram noted, the Cowboys allowed 473 points (the most in franchise history) and 6,183 yards (second-most all-time in the team). Yikes!

With that said, Dallas really need every help they can get to address the issue. And that's where Malik Hooker comes in.

While it's still uncertain if Hooker can quickly make an impact to the Cowboys after his season-ending Achilles injury, there's no doubt his skillset will be a valuable addition to the tea. At also only 25 years old, there's a good opportunity for him to bounce back and show everyone in the NFL what he can do.

Prior to his disappointing injury, Hooker has actually shown flashes of brilliance with the Indianapolis Colts. In 35 games played throughout his career, he has already recorded 124 tackles and seven interceptions–including three in his rookie season.

Of course, another concern for Hooker is his ability to stay healthy since he is yet to complete a full 16-game season. However, that's up to the Cowboys to help him maintain his health while ensuring he provides them a significant boost on defense.
