The Dallas Cowboys have a busy offseason ahead of them. They have a bunch of impending free agents they'll have to deal with, and some holes to fill through the draft. They're also heading into their first season with Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator after Scott Linehan was let go. Jason Garrett is going to be a lame duck head coach with no new contract, so there should be a ton of drama.

One of the most pressing orders of business is a potential new contract for quarterback Dak Prescott. Speaking to reporters today, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said the team wants to get a new deal done with Prescott this offseason, per Jon Machota of Dallas News.

“You look at a quarterback that has had the success he’s had…He’s done everything the right way. I think he deserves to have his contract looked at in a very progressive way,” Jones said.

Prescott's situation will be one of the more interesting to monitor as he heads into the last year of his rookie deal. The fact that Jones made this statement publicly means the team isn't planning on lowballing Prescott.

Prescott burst onto the scene as a rookie with a Pro Bowl campaign but has been inconsistent since. His representatives will be looking for top of the market quarterback money, and it's unclear how much Cowboys brass will be willing to commit. Prescott regressed a bit in 2017 but bounced back this past year, again making the Pro Bowl. He finished with 3,885 yards and 22 touchdowns with eight interceptions while leading the Cowboys to an NFC East title.

Prescott really came on strong over the second half of the season once the team added Amari Cooper. With Cooper in the fold for a full season, the Cowboys are hoping their offense can take a leap. It all starts with Prescott though, and Jones' comments indicate the team wants to make him happy.
