The Dallas Cowboys made some big offseason moves but there's still work to be done. Star tight end Dalton Schultz is due for a new contract, but it doesn't seem as if the team is quite ready to pay up. According to Michael Gelhken, the Cowboys and Schultz are at an impasse when it comes to contract talks. After slapping the franchise tag on Schultz, the Cowboys have until July 15 to reach an agreement on a long-term deal with him, or else he'll play the 2022 season on the tag worth $10.93 million.

It's a common belief among Cowboys fans that Schultz has warranted a new deal, both via his play on the field and his actions as a leader in the locker room. His teammates frequently speak highly of him, and he's been a key weapon for Dak Prescott over the past few years.

The Cowboys didn't sign him to an extension at the start of the offseason, but placing him under the franchise tag prevented Schultz from hitting free agency. The Cowboys will also have the option to sign him to a franchise tag deal worth around $13 million in 2023, though it's clear that's something Schultz would rather avoid.

Schultz will be playing for a new deal in 2022 and will be looking to improve upon what was an excellent season in 2021. The 25-year-old recorded 78 receptions for 808 yards and 8 touchdowns last season, posting career-highs across the board in his fourth season in the NFL. The former fourth-round pick has truly come into his own over the past two years, and he's now hoping the Cowboys step up and reward him with a new extension.
