The Dallas Cowboys have made a major decision on tight end Dalton Schultz, who is coming off a fantastic season as one of Dak Prescott's favorite targets. The team has used the franchise tag on Schultz for the 2022 campaign.

Via Ian Rapoport:

The Cowboys TE will play on a one-year deal worth reportedly $10.8 million and will be hoping to secure a long-term deal after 2022 if he can put together another standout year. Schultz, a fourth-year pro out of Stanford, racked up 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns last season. That was by far his best season yet.

With the Cowboys likely to part ways with wideout Amari Cooper, there is going to be even more opportunities for Schultz to have a more established role in the offense. This is certainly a great decision for Dallas given how important the 25-year-old was to their success in '21, despite the early playoff exit.

If Schultz can ball out again, there is no doubt the Cowboys will be paying him handsomely in the very near future. Dallas, who finished at 12-5 in 2021 and won the NFC East, had the second-best passing offense in the entire NFL, and Schultz was certainly an integral part. They also scored the most points per game in the league at 31.2.
