Would Dalvin Cook be a better fit in Dallas than Zeke?

That is what one unnamed NFC executive thinks.

During a poll of over 50 league executives, coaches, scouts and players on who are the 10 best running backs currently in the league, one executive had an interesting comment on Dalvin Cook and his place on the list as compared to other top caliber running backs, most notably Ezekiel Elliot.

“Cook can play. Contact don’t bother him. You’ve got to get him down. He’d be better than Zeke in Dallas,” the NFC executive told ESPN.

In the overall poll Elliot ranked third, behind only Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey. Cook, meanwhile, ranked sixth.

While this one NFC executive thought Cook would be better than Elliot in Dallas, other executives heaped praise on the 24-year-old running back. One evaluator was very high on his physical abilities.

“Probably the best natural traits — speed, power, balance,” said one NFL personnel evaluator.

Some other executives did raise concerns on his strength following Elliott’s holdout prior to the 2019 season, which netted him a six-year, $90 million extension on top of his rookie contract.

“Very few breakout runs, doesn’t look as strong anymore,” said one NFL offensive coach who voted him outside of the top 10. “Feels like he’s about 60 to 70% of what he was.”

Elliot has rushed for 5,405 yards and 40 touchdowns in his four years of NFL experience. Cook, on the other hand, has rushed for 2,104 yards and 17 touchdowns in three years. Elliot has been selected to three Pro Bowls to Cook’s one.
