The Dallas Cowboys may be without a couple of their best defensive players in training camp, as defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence and cornerback Byron Jones are likely to hit the PUP list, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

Both Lawrence and Jones have had surgeries this offseason, with Lawrence undergoing shoulder surgery and Jones having a procedure to repair his hip.

The good news for the Cowboys, though, is that both guys are expected to be ready for the season opener:

“We’ll have some more definitive conversations with our medical staff in the next couple days as we break to talk more about the exact timetable that they’re on, and we’ll get more updates as we go through these next four or five weeks,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said of Lawrence and Jones. “Again, everybody’s on schedule, and we feel good about where they are coming back.”

Dallas just handed Lawrence a five-year, $105 million contract extension earlier this offseason. The 27-year-old then underwent surgery five days after signing his deal.

“He’s doing great,” Garrett said of Lawrence. “Obviously, the focus for him is to get the rehab done, so he’s spent a lot of time with our training staff and our weight staff to make sure he comes back the right way. He’s just handling everything the right way. All reports about him are really positive.”

Lawrence is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he racked up 64 tackles and 10.5 sacks en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. Meanwhile, Jones made the Pro Bowl himself courtesy of 67 tackles and 14 passes defended.
