Dallas Cowboys emerging star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is coming off a breakout 2017 campaign that earned him a significant pay raise with the team electing to place the franchise tag worth $17.3 million on him for next season.

A new deal may not have been worked out between both sides prior to the deadline earlier this month, but it does present the opportunity for him to secure a lucrative new deal next March from the Cowboys or possibility another team. According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Lawrence already possesses enough motivation to put himself in the position to receive a huge contract.

Lawrence took the league by storm last season with his best season after posting a career-best 14.5 sacks that helped him earn his first Pro Bowl selection and a Second-Team All-Pro nod. He also finished tied for second in the NFL in sacks, and his 79 total pressures were the third-most in the football land, according to Pro Football Focus.
On top of that, he was also only the third player in franchise history to record at least 14.0 sacks in a single season joining the likes of DeMarcus Ware and Jim Jeffcoat. Lawrence has a chance in front of him to showcase that wasn't a one-year fluke performance as his play in the 2018 season will be a huge determinant to whether he can secure a new huge deal next offseason.
The 26-year-old clearly has the motivation in place to get that done it's just a matter of him showing it o the field once again this upcoming year.
