The XFL version 2.0 is apparently no more, with the league shutting down all of their operations on Friday. With the news of the XFL ending, DeMarcus Lawrence of the Dallas Cowboys has an interesting idea to revive the seemingly cursed league:

When the XFL announced that it would be making a valiant return in 2020, the intention of the league was to give players another chance to make it to the NFL. Therefore, Lawrence's idea is on-brand with what the XFL attempted to do.

Even though the XFL won't be continuing, there have been quite a few players from the league to sign with an NFL team. Most recently, Storm Norton of the Los Angeles Wildcats signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday. Besides Norton, Jordan Ta'amu and P.J. Walker are the other notable names from the league to get contracts in the NFL.

Based on the number of players who have made the transition from the XFL to the NFL, the start-up league achieved what they wanted. But the XFL could continue making a positive difference for players if the NFL decided to make it a true developmental arm for building up its own rosters.

Similar to how the MLB has the Minor Leagues, the XFL could serve the same role for the NFL. However, it's tough to envision Roger Goodell choosing to make that happen, giving him another league to worry about. While the NFL might not entertain the idea, Lawrence should present his idea to Jerry Jones — the influential owner of the Cowboys.
