The Dallas Cowboys came prepared against the New Orleans Saints' high-powered offense on Thursday night, pushing through for a 13-10 win.

Prior to the game, there was plenty of jabbering from Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence concerning the Cowboys topping the Saints in the primetime matchup. That was a prediction that came to fruition.

Following the contest, Lawrence voiced that he believes the team's defense still needs to improve, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“I can’t predict the future,” Lawrence said. “I don’t know what’s next to come. So I’m not going to call it the best yet. I really don’t think that was our final form. We’ve still got to get better.”

Dallas came with the heat defensively to step up to the huge challenge by shutting down arguably the most explosive offense in the league. The Cowboys held New Orleans to just 176 total offensive yards with only 14 first downs while going 3-for-11 on third down and failed to convert on both of their red zone trips.

It was simply a dominating performance that saw them make star quarterback Drew Brees a non-factor, as he recorded just 127 yards on 18-of-28 completed passes with a touchdown and an interception.

Meanwhile, their running game struggled to get any footing with either of their Pro Bowl running backs. Alvin Kamara was largely ineffective with 36 rushing yards on 11 attempts and eight catches for 36 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Mark Ingram had just 27 rushing yards on seven attempts with two catches for one yard. It wasn't anywhere near the type of outing that New Orleans had hoped to have to add to their impressive season.

What this has done more than anything else is add another chip on their shoulder to make a push toward the playoffs and possibly compete for the Super Bowl. Only time will tell how much impact this type of performance will have on the rest of their season.
