Given the pass-heavy nature of today's NFL, teams are always on the hunt for some more depth on the edge. Former star linebacker DeMarcus Ware took advantage of this fact by using it for ammo on April Fool's Day.

Ware raised the hopes of fans everywhere by insinuating his return to the league on social media. However, he has since confirmed that it was all a joke, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk:

“I was playing around, April Fool’s,” Ware said of his tweet. “I got some old workouts [and posted them on social media] and told everybody I was going to come back. And then last night, Jerry Jones and his jet were out there at an event. He said, ‘Hey, why don’t you finish that April Fool’s and come off the jet,’ so I ended up walking out and was like, ‘Hey, he came and got me.’ I was like maybe that isn’t going to go off right with a lot of guys, but I’m a funny guy, and it’s about having fun. That’s what I did. I’m not coming back. I’m not coming back. That’s for sure.”

Although Ware is recently retired, there were rumors about teams gauging his interest in a potential comeback early this offseason. The former Dallas Cowboy and Denver Bronco registered 138.5 sacks during his illustrious 12-year career en route to becoming the premier pass-rusher of his generation. That said, the prospect of his return seemed somewhat possible. However, it is clear that Ware has officially hung up his cleats for good.

While fans may not see Ware back in pads, they could very well be spotting him on the sidelines in the near future. The future Hall of Famer has expressed his interest in making the transition to coaching. He has even spent some time tutoring the Cowboys pass-rushers since his retirement. Needless to say, his experience as one of the game's best former players could be invaluable for a team looking to give him a shot.
