If former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver De Bryant were to get a little cranky with anyone online or in the media, it would be understandable. The man was just cut by the only team he has ever played for in the NFL. That kind of thing is upsetting.

However, he may want to hold on the “the media is trying to destroy me” comments:

(Warning: Tweet contains NSFW language.)

Of course, if he really wasn’t bothered by it, he probably wouldn’t have sent the tweet out into the world in the first place. In doing so, not only does it prove that he is bothered by what the media is saying, he may be putting up a red flag for teams interested in signing him.

Everyone knows the kind of potential he has in the right offense. However, recent history has shown production is only part of the equation with free agents. Teams thinking of signing guys now want to make sure a player is going to tow the party line.

Teams want a guy that is not going to cause problems of any kind. They want someone who is going to behave on the field, on the sideline, in the locker room, with the media, in meetings, online—pretty much anywhere.

Creating fodder for the media and bloggers with tweets like this doesn’t help. Neither does calling out your coaches or throwing tantrums on the sideline.

Teams do not want a distraction. But they do want a talented wide receiver. What will be interesting to see is how much anyone is willing to pay a talented, troublesome guy like Bryant.
