The Dallas Cowboys have continued their mark forward up the standings over the last several weeks riding a five-game winning streak that has put them on track toward the playoffs.

The Cowboys upward momentum had been continued a huge 29-23 overtime win over the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday that put them in the driver seat for the NFC East division title. However, this has led to star running back Ezekiel Elliott drawing a $26, 739 fine by the NFL for lowering his helmet that has quickly decided to appeal, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was fined $26,739 for lowering his helmet to initiate contact against Philadelphia defensive back Corey Graham in last week’s win against the Eagles. Elliott is appealing. Elliott was the first offensive player to be flagged for that penalty this season. It’s the second time in four weeks Elliott has been fined. He was fined $13,369 for unsportsmanlike conduct for donating $21 into the Salvation Army kettle after a touchdown against Washington.

This has been largely a fine that has been called on defensive players with Elliott becoming the first offensive player to be hit with a penalty. It was a play in the game that Elliott was seen lowering his helmet to initiate contact that received a 15-yard penalty in the contest. The fact that it drew a flag in the game as well may also hurt his case in trying to overturn the fine that has been placed on.

Nonetheless, this is just the latest fine that Elliott has received as he had another one a couple of weeks ago after threw $21 into the Salvation Army kettle behind the end zone after he scored a touchdown against the Washington Redskins. There should be a decision made on this matter prior to Sunday's action against the Indianapolis Colts.

Elliott has been putting together another highly productive campaign as he leads the NFL with 1,262 rushing yards and six touchdowns along with 65 catches for 502 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
