It had been more than a month since the Dallas Cowboys last won a game this season, but running back Ezekiel Elliott never doubted that the Cowboys would be out of the race for the NFC East title.

Dallas won its first game since Week 5 by defeating the Minnesota Vikings, 31-28. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and was the team’s first road victory this season.

But more than that, the win gives the Cowboys a 3-7 record, which puts them in a tie with the Giants and the Washington Football Team for second place in the NFC East, just behind the Philadelphia Eagles and their 3-6-1 record.

Elliott, who had 21 carries and 103 rushing yards while adding two receptions for 11 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown against Minnesota, is confident of his team’s chances of winning the division after the win:

“We never thought we were out of it. Our division's been struggling this year. We're right where we need to be with what's been going on with the division. We've got to build on this success, so we can't come out on a short week and take a step back against a division opponent. We've got to make sure we build on the success and keep getting better.”

Prior to the win over the Vikings, the Cowboys’ last win was back on Oct. 11, when they defeated the New York Giants, 37-34, in a game where quarterback Dak Prescott suffered his season-ending injury.

Elliott and the Cowboys will look to build on their win and boost their chances of winning the division when they face Washington on Thursday.
