Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is leaving Cabo and flying back to Dallas in case an extension gets done, according to Ian Rapaport of NFL Network.

According to Rapoport, the deal isn't done, and there are still some obstacles that need to be overcome, but he wants to be ready in case a deal happens. According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the two sides got closer to a deal on Monday, but there are still some issues about the structure of the deal.

Elliott would like a deal that is front-loaded like Todd Gurley's and that is something the team doesn't want to do. Elliott still seems to have all the negotiating power because he has made it clear he isn't afraid to miss games, and the team needs him, even if they don't want to admit it.

As much as Jerry Jones and the Cowboys talk about preparing to play games without Elliott, it's not something they want to do.

Elliott is a huge part of the offense, and when he isn't playing, the offense isn't nearly as good. A loss or two early in the season because they don't have Elliott could be the difference between a first-round bye, or maybe even a playoff berth.

If a deal could be agreed to in the next few days, it seems he could still play on Sunday against the New York Giants, especially if he has done a good job of taking care of his conditioning while in Cabo.
