The Dallas Cowboys have struggled mightily this year to the tune of a 1-3 record through the first four weeks of the 2020 NFL season. One of their big issues has been turnovers.

Superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott has not been immune to that. Turnovers have plagued him so far with three fumbles. According to Jonny Auping of DallasCowboys.com, Elliott gave an honest assessment on his fumbling problem.

“I can’t give up the ball anymore. . . . It hurts,” Elliott said, via the team’s website. “I look at myself as a leader for this team. And I look at myself as someone who’s supposed to help pick the team up when we get down and not be the cause of falling behind.”

2020 certainly has not been a great year for Elliott or the Cowboys so far. The 1-3 record finds them in third place in a very weak NFC East. Meanwhile, the turnovers are only part of the issue for Elliott.

The running back also has a low 3.9 yards per carry. He's been a solid factor in the passing game and has three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown already this year, putting him on pace for 16 total touchdowns this season. Outside of that, though, the yards per carry and the massive fumbling problem are legitimately serious issues.

If he continues to turn the ball over, it's hard to see the Cowboys finishing the season with anything resembling a good record.

Elliott seems to know that as well. He states that he sees himself as a leader for the Cowboys. As one of the best running backs in the NFL and one of the best players on the Dallas roster, he is certainly right about that.

The running back also says he believes he is supposed to pick the team up when needed and not be the reason they are “falling behind.”

Right now that's the issue. Elliott knows it and is looking to fix the problem. If he can, the Cowboys should be able to get back on the right track. If not, though, the team struggles will continue.
