The Dallas Cowboys have not been shy about trying to limit the intense workload that they’ve occasionally placed on running back Ezekiel Elliot. Coming into the league as a four down back, Elliot has touched the ball an insane amount, but according to him, he’s not at all worried about wearing down just yet.

Speaking to reporters via Bleacher Report earlier this week, Elliot was asked about the issue.

“I haven't worn down yet,” Elliott said.

Of course, no running back is going to admit that, but it is a good thing to see Elliot note that he feels fine coming into the latest offseason.

According to Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown, however, the team is still looking to incorporate other players into things in an effort to keep Elliot fresh.

“I think it's important for us as an organization to make sure that we can maximize his ability to help us go out and win championships,” Brown said. “The way to do that is to take a little off of him. We've got to make sure we take care of that guy.”

Since 2016, Elliot has tallied up more than 1,000 carries, leading the league in 2016 (322) and 2018 (304). Elliot also totaled 381 total touches in 2018, which is a huge number for any player to total. While the team will likely only go as far as Elliot can take them, the team doesn’t need to be so reliant on him anymore.

With Dak Prescott also coming into his own as a quarterback, the Cowboys don’t exactly need Elliot to be as effective as was.

Couple that with an offense that also includes Amari Cooper, and the Cowboys can pull back some of the workloads that Elliot has had to handle, making him fresher for potential playoff runs, which is something the Cowboys likely are trying to accomplish.
