The Dallas Cowboys are coming off their most impressive win of the season after edging the New Orleans Saints 13-10 on Thursday night.
This has put them right in the driving seat to win the NFC East earning a playoff spot heading into the final month of the season. Despite that, star running back Ezekiel Elliott has voiced that he believes the Cowboys are nowhere near a position where they can get comfortable about where they are. (h/t Sam Quinn of 247 Sports)
“I think the sky’s the limit with this team,” Elliott said in the locker room on Thursday. “We have a lot of talent, a lot of young talent, a lot of great players with very bright futures, but we’re 100 percent not in a place where we can get comfortable. We’re 7-5, the division’s still up for grabs, we’ve just gotta make sure we finish this season off the right way and get in the playoffs.”
Although Dallas has pushed themselves further atop the NFC East, the Washington Redskins are still behind them as a win this week over the Philadelphia Eagles puts them with the same record with him. Meanwhile, the Eagles are just a game off the pace as a win over the Redskins this week keeps there in the picture with still another game to play against the Cowboys.
There is still much shifting around that could happen in the division that could play Dallas out of the playoffs. This is where the mentality that Elliott has adopted and is hoping his team does the same as things could quickly shift in the other direction. The Cowboys have some tough opponents left on the schedule with the Eagles next week followed by the surging Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and finish off against the New York Giants.
This is simply a reminder from Elliott that his team still has plenty to get through first over the next month before they can feel comfortable about their playoff hopes.
