The Dallas Cowboys and star quarterback Dak Prescott could not come to an agreement about a long-term contract—and one former Cowboys star is predicting Prescott is only going to make the franchise hurt for not signing him beyond the 2020 season.

Former Cowboys fullback Daryl Johnston, who spent 11 seasons with Dallas and earning two Pro Bowl appearances, explained how Prescott, 27, could feel “bitter” for the lack of an agreement on a contract extension this past offseason (via FS1's “The Herd”).

“I see him embracing this and making the Cowboys pay for the fact that they franchise tagged him this year.”

Prescott jumped into the starting quarterback role for the Cowboys back in 2016 when veteran signal-caller Tony Romo was injured during the preseason. A then-rookie Prescott, a fourth-round selection in that year's draft out of Mississippi State, led Dallas to the playoffs, earning a Pro Bowl appearance in the process.

Since then, Prescott has earned another Pro Bowl selection and took the Cowboys to a second postseason trip, although the team failed to clinch a playoff appearance for the 2019-20 season; last year, Prescott was second in the NFL in passing yards behind Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston.

This past offseason, as players and coaches round up for teams' training camps commencing earlier this week, saw Prescott and the Cowboys fail to agree to a contract extension, instead having the 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year sign the franchise tag.

The Cowboys sure do have a ton of offensive weapons for Prescott in 2020, and Dak may score yet again when it comes to negotiating his next contract in 2021.
