Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Gerald McCoy recently sustained an apparent knee injury during the team's first padded practice. He is feared to have a torn ACL injury but an MRI will further confirm the severity of the injury.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport tweeted additional details on McCoy's situation:

He was reportedly doing individual drills at the time and abruptly fell to the ground afterward. He quickly clutched his right knee and couldn't put any weight on his injured leg.

The 32-year old veteran recently signed a three-year, $18.3 million contract with the Cowboys during the offseason. He was acquired to fill in the spot previously held by defensive tackle Maliek Collins who moved on and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

McCoy spent the majority of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he grabbed several awards to his name. He was named to several All-Pro teams and was also a six-time Pro Bowler. After nine seasons with the team, he went on to pack his bags and spent a season with the Carolina Panthers in 2019.

The former Oklahoma Sooner tallied a total of 334 tackles, 59.5 sacks, 23 passed deflections, and six forced fumbles through 10 seasons. His arrival will supposedly help boost the Cowboys' revamped defensive line. The veteran experience that he brings will also provide the needed depth upfront for Dallas.

The next man up should fill in the big spot left by McCoy in the meantime. Cowboys fans can only hope for the best that McCoy can still rejoin the team sometime in the future.
