The Dallas Cowboys are having a rough season with many calling for the firing of head coach Jason Garrett. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, although Garrett isn’t in any great danger of losing his job this season, he noted that Stephen and Jerry Jones have already touched on the idea of replacing Garrett as head coach in the offseason with Oklahoma Sooners sideline boss, Lincoln Riley.

The Cowboys’ offense has been among the least creative in the NFL this season, thus also putting a target on the back of offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. They enter Tuesday’s assignment against the Philadelphia Eagles just 26th in the league with 19.2 points per game and 27th in total yards with an average of 317.1 per contest.

As further elucidated by Rapoport, the Cowboys contemplated on firing Linehan prior to the season and also during the team’s Week 8 bye, when Dallas was coming off a 20-17 road loss to the Washington Redskins – the same loss that reportedly forced the hand of Dallas to trade for Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper.

But despite the addition of a talented weapon downfield, the Cowboys still suffered a 28-14 Week 9 loss to the Tennessee Titans in which their play-calling was put into question again.

If the Cowboys are indeed looking towards the direction of Lincoln Riley, they will have to wait before making a move on him, especially with the college football season still running.
