It has seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Jason Garrett is coaching in his last days with the Dallas Cowboys as the season nears an end. According to Ian Rapoport, Garrett needs to lead Dallas to an NFC title game or further to return in 2020.

Heading into Week 16, the Cowboys are 7-7 as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a pivotal NFC East matchup. While Dallas is still expected to make the playoffs, it's fair to say that the Cowboys have had a disappointing season.

That is unless Garrett can lead his team to an unforeseen deep playoff run. Before that even happens, Dallas has to defeat the Eagles on Sunday to assure that they win the division.

Last week, the Cowboys were able to defeat the Los Angeles Rams 44-21 in dominant fashion. In the game, Dallas showed the potential they have when everyone contributes accordingly.

But since Garrett became the full-time head coach in 2011, the Cowboys have failed to show much consistency. The 53-year-old coach has combined for a 79-63 record in his first nine seasons thus far.

Along with his regular-season record, Garrett boasts a less-than-ideal 2-3 record in the postseason. As a matter of fact, Garrett has failed to advance beyond the NFC Divisional Round during his tenure with the Cowboys.

Therefore, even Jerry Jones realizes that a change needs to be made if he's unable to take the next step. Barring a strong showing in the playoffs, Garrett only has a few games left as the head coach of America's Team.
