The Dallas Cowboys have found themselves in an interesting position, with their star running back Ezekiel Elliott facing a six-game suspension for his involvement in an alleged domestic violence situation.
This has only further clouded his immediate future, as head coach Jason Garrett is still uncertain if Elliott will play at all in the preseason, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
“If he were to play, I think he would play probably in a similar fashion as he did last year,” Garrett said.
Last year, Elliott played in just one preseason game, but he was dealing with a hamstring issue through the latter portions of training camp. There were entirely different circumstances around that situation compared to now, but the same result may occur.
If he is able to reduce or even remove the suspension altogether, it would be wise to put him in one game so that he can regain the feel for the live action that can't be simulated in practice. He remains a huge piece of the puzzle and him operating at full tilt will be huge upon his return, whenever it may be.
That said, he has yet to play a single snap in either one of the first two preseason games despite being in full uniform to possibly do so. The Cowboys are set to play the Indianapolis Colts on August 19th, the Oakland Raiders on August 26th, and close out the preseason against the Houston Texans on August 31st.
