Florida State, after firing head coach Willie Taggart, is getting interesting with their coaching search. Alongside Bob Stoops, Mark Stoops, Matt Campbell and James Franklin is a new name in the pool: Deion Sanders.

Though never a college-level coach, Sanders has powerful people in his corner backing his relevancy in the Seminole coaching search. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who once signed his paychecks, views Sanders as a good option for Florida State.

I've actually watched him coach,” Jones told 105.3 FM the Fan, via CBS. “I've watched him work with younger players in the pros. He's outstanding. He has all the credibility that you could ever imagine both from knowing what he's talking about plus as the sensitivity or perception that he has with people skills.

Sanders, a first-ballot Hall of Famer and Florida State great, is currently the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill high school in Cedar Hill, Texas. He has helped the school transform into a power-house as they are gunning for a three-peat.

“He's really good,” continued Jones. “He generates excitement so that with that energy package that he's got, along with — just I would say — his understanding of how to maximize his talent, which he did. He had, as I mentioned earlier, the great talent package. But boy, he got a lot out of it and consequently played to it. And I think he can coach that. He can be a great coach.”

It’s undeniable that Sanders will bring energy and a new-found swagger into Florida State. His status as one of their all-time greats doesn’t hurt. However, what’s at question is if he is able to coach at a high-level, in a power-5 conference with all eyes watching.
