The Dallas Cowboys went 8-8 in 2019 and missed the playoffs. It marked yet another ultimately disappointing season in the Jason Garrett era. That era ended recently though, as the Cowboys made it official that they were firing the head coach on Sunday.

Team owner, Jerry Jones, was quick to release a statement on the firing.

Jones makes one thing very clear in this statement: the organization has no ill-will towards Garrett. In fact, it seems like they left on very good terms. Jones and the Cowboys seem to hold Garrett in very high regard.

That being said, this was a move that had to be made. Garrett had been the head coach for quite some time, and the Cowboys had no Super Bowl appearances in that time. In fact, they only had three NFC East titles. That's not all that great of a number if we are being honest.

Now the Cowboys can start searching for a new head coach, and this is a great start. Jones showed that he respects his coaches. By putting out this glowing statement, he's letting other coaches know that they will be treated properly and get the respect they deserve.

Yes, it's just a statement, but at the moment it's all we really know about the firing. Maybe things will come out in the future that help strengthen this belief, or maybe they will make it seem worse. However, for now it looks like Jones said and did all the right things.

This also gives Garrett a great look as he heads out. Unless he decides to retire, the head coach will likely get quite a few offers or at least interviews. Getting a statement like this from his former employer will certainly help.

Even if things didn't end perfectly, this statement is the way to go out. It puts both the Dallas organization and Garrett in a great position to move forward.
