The Dallas Cowboys appear to have a promising future ahead with quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott leading the way for America's Team. Although Elliott missed six games due to suspension and Prescott wasn't as impressive as he was in his rookie campaign last season, the Cowboys are in a good spot and owner Jerry Jones is well aware of that fact.

With Prescott heading into the final year of his rookie contract come September, Jones will have to be prepared to pay him, especially with some of the league's top quarterbacks getting historic deals. Jones appears to be more than willing to pay his young quarterback when the time comes, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.

“He's going to get his extraordinary contract,” Jones also said Saturday of Prescott. “But while we can put the team together and take advantage when he is on this contract right now, we've got to be real astute to maximize that advantage.”

The San Francisco 49ers recently set the bar for the top-tier quarterbacks in the NFL by signing newcomer Jimmy Garoppolo to a five-year, $137.5 million contract. Garoppolo's deal won't be on top for long with other notable quarterbacks like Drew Brees, Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan, and especially Aaron Rodgers expected to raise the bar once again.

If Jones is serious about paying Prescott, it will more than likely come at a hefty sum unless he has a disappointing season in his third year with the team. Rodgers' upcoming deal will likely be the contract which will dictate terms for Prescott's deal, and it could be near or well beyond $150 million.

Naturally, a lot can happen between now and when contract negotiations begin with Prescott, but Jones and the up-and-comer will undoubtedly be paying close attention to deals struck with Brees, Cousins, Ryan, and Rodgers in the very near future.
