The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a successful 2018 season, and there is a positive buzz surrounding America's Team. And for team owner and general manager Jerry Jones, this means keeping all the pieces that helped them succeed last season under contract.

One of the team's current priorities is keeping running back Ezekiel Elliott tied to the team with a long-term contract. Elliott has already missed preseason and training camp as both camps have failed to piece together a deal that benefits both camps.

Jones had this to say to ESPN's Todd Archer:

“In terms of off the field, what you want is everybody under contract, and everybody is under contract that makes the squad, lining up against the [Week 1 opponent] Giants. That is the goal,” Jones said. “It's a very tangible thing. Everybody under contract playing. When you don't have everybody under contract playing, then you're dealing with a blowout or you're dealing with a flat tire someplace and you try to get it fixed. But you've got to play, and you do play.”

The former Buckeye is an integral part of the Cowboys' offensive scheme, notching 1434 yards and notching six rushing touchdowns. He was also effective on the passing game as he made 77 catches for 37.8 average yards per game.

Jones was rather nonchalant about tying Elliott down, though. Since Elliott still has two years left on his contract, the franchise is in no rush extend him. It is in their best interests to take their time and find the right contract that gets the player paid and allows them to make the most out of their money.

The Cowboys have made it clear that the ball is now in their running back's court.
