On September 25th, 2017, Jerry Jones made nationwide headlines that reverberated past the sports world when he kneeled with Dallas Cowboys players and coaches before his team's home game against the Arizona Cardinals. Less than a year later, the Cowboys owner muddled the goodwill that had previously resulted from that show of solidarity with players, demanding that his team stand for the national anthem during the lead up to the 2018 season.

But don't worry, Dallas fans. Jones swears he and his team's relationship with free agent pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence is “outstanding.”

“None. There’s just absolutely none, as far as I’m concerned,” Jones said when asked on Tuesday if there is any discontent between Lawrence and the Cowboys, per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “It’s one of the best relationships I have or ever had with a player. The relationship is outstanding.”

Obviously, Jones' assessment of his relationship with with Lawrence warrants a grain of salt. He hasn't exactly endeared himself to players league-wide recently, and has every incentive to stress harmony between Dallas and all of its players before free agency officially begins next month. Better to make it appear the player bears some culpability in the case he ultimately signs elsewhere, after all.

But there's also reason to believe Lawrence is fond of Cowboys management. Though he will reportedly hold out if franchise tagged for a second consecutive season, the 27-year-old still hopes to sign a long-term deal with Dallas even as the team mulls foisting a one-year contract upon him yet again.
