Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has always felt free to state what's on his mind. With Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott's holdout on the mind of Cowboys Nation, Jones didn't refuse to give his two cents on the situation.

In an interview with CBS Dallas-Fort Worth, Jerry Jones spoke his mind about the situation, saying:

You don’t have to have a rushing champion to win a Super Bowl. Emmitt (Smith) was the first one to do it. That’s one of the dilemmas at running back is that the league knows that you can win Super Bowls and not have the Emmitt Smith back there or not have Zeke back there.

Jerry Jones added to the conversation, as he told listeners:

You’ve gotta do all of the things along with having Zeke that allow you to have other players so that you can win the Super Bowl. That’s what we’re going through.

Interestingly enough, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls with Emmitt Smith running behind their offensive line. In each of those seasons, he led the NFL in rushing yards. In the two seasons when Elliott led the NFL in rushing (2016 and 2018), the Cowboys either locked up a top seed or won a playoff game. But, it's a different and less running-dependent league the Cowboys now inhabit.

With extensions due to Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, Byron Jones, and soon Jaylon Smith, the Cowboys have their fair share of players wanting new contracts. Extending all, including Elliott, won't be an easy feat. But one thing is known; when Elliott has the ball, the Cowboys tend to do better.

Jerry Jones tends to be happier.
