Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones reaffirmed his commitment to his QB1 in Dak Prescott who previously sustained a season-ending injury in Week 5 against the New York Giants. The multi-billionaire was then asked if it was “crazy” to select a rookie quarterback with a high draft pick in the coming 2021 NFL Draft, via 105.3 The Fan.

“Yes, you ask me if it's crazy to bring the idea up? And I've answered it, yes. It's not the thing to be talking about at all. Dak is our quarterback,” he said.

The two-time Pro Bowler was on pace to have one of the best statistical seasons of his career before he went down with the injury. He already amassed 1,856 passing yards on 222 attempts for a career-best 68% passing percentage through five games played.

The next draft class is expected to be headlined by prolific playmakers coming from the collegiate ranks. Clemson's Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State's Justin Fields, BYU's Zach Wilson, and Alabama's Mac Jones are just some of the quarterbacks expected to throw their names in the 2021 NFL Draft. They are also all in the running for the coveted Heisman Trophy award by the end of the season.

With Prescott's absence, the Cowboys offense has been left in shambles after backup quarterback Andy Dalton remains on the concussion protocol after suffering a vicious hit to the helmet in Week 7 while rookie gunslinger Ben DiNucci had forgettable appearances under center.

With his back against the wall, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy recently took a chance on second-generational quarterback Garrett Gilbert who came out with a respectable performance in a tightly-contested 24-19 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9.

Jerry Jones' continued trust in Dak Prescott could eventually lead to better trade talks in the upcoming offseason with the team owner looking to keep his quarterback at the helm for the years to come.
