Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has had a tough time getting things going this year. But Jerry Jones still feels the former All-Pro is the best player on the roster.

Jones talked about “Zeke” Friday during an interview with 105.3 The Fan, also stating the Cowboys need to do a better job of getting Elliott into open space and allowing him to make plays:

“He's our best football player. He's our best one,” Jones said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “Having said that, we've just got to have more chances to expose him to the defense, and we're going to do that. …In my mind, he's our best player.”

Of course, it is hard to spring Elliott for long runs or big plays when practically the entire starting offensive line is out due to injury.

Cowboys veteran center Travis Frederick retired before the year began. La'el Collins has not and will not play this year after undergoing hip surgery. Tyron Smith is out for the season after undergoing neck surgery. Four-time All-Pro guard Zack Martin has been healthy, but is also dealing with a calf issue.

Opposing defenses have also keyed in on Elliott with both Dak Prescott and backup quarterback Andy Dalton sidelined. As a result, the former Ohio State star is averaging just over three yards per carry in his last three games, though the Cowboys have also faced tough defensive fronts.

Perhaps Elliott will find more success in a Week 11 showdown with the Minnesota Vikings, though Minnesota has won three straight.
