Jerry Jones is one of the most outspoken figures in the NFL, but he broke character when asked about his take on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s current contract negotiations.

In an appearance on the radio show 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, the Dallas Cowboys owner chose to remain silent on where he stands with regards to whether he wants to see Goodell’s NFL reign as commissioner get extended or not, as quoted by Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com.

“That’s obviously an internal, very internal thing and I would not comment about it. And I don’t want that to be interpreted. I just will not comment about it. I’m one of the people that are basically involved in how that is being negotiated. It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to comment about it,” Jones said.

Silence sometimes breeds intrigue, especially in the NFL offseason, when news are a bit harder to come by, so expect plenty of speculations to flow out of Jones’ neutrality on the matter.

For some Cowboys fans, this could be taken for Jones being secretly sick of Goodell, particularly after the commissioner levied a six-game suspension on Dallas star running back Ezekiel Elliott this summer. And that it took a long time before a decision might only have compounded Jones’ hate on Goodell.

Goodell is in the midst of a lucrative contract extension talks that could guarantee his seat until 2024, per Daniel Kaplan of Sports Business Daily.

It could be just a matter of time before Jones speaks his mind about Goodell’s tenure as the most powerful man in the NFL. For now, Jones probably is more concerned how his Cowboys would fare in the coming season.
