After parting ways with former Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant, the Dallas Cowboys have a huge hole in their passing game to fill. As a result, the responsibility will shift to the new additions the franchise made this offseason. One of which is former Colorado State wide receiver Michael Gallup, who Dallas selected with the 81st overall pick in the third round of his year's draft.
According to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News, the 22-year-old voiced that he believes that over time he will fill that spot, but not right away.
“Dez is a great player,” Gallup said. “It's hard for a rookie to come in and just replace all of the stuff that he's done here. We're out here trying to practice to be like him, obviously. But I'm not coming in here just to replace him. That's not my role yet.”
Durig his collegiate career, Gallup established himself as one of the most productive wide receivers in the nation, earning a pair of All-Mountain West selections and a Second-Team All-American nod. In his senior year, he posted a school-record 100 receptions for 1,413 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games played.
He also has several other impressive marks to his name, with three of the top eight single-game receiving performances in Colorado State history, and he's the only wideout in school history with more than one 200-yard receiving game in his career. He also notched 13 catches twice in a game, the second-most in school history.
Although attempting to replace Bryant puts a tremendous weight on his shoulders, Gallup looks like he's up for the challenge to eventually capitalize on the opportunity.
