The restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has prevented teams from getting in-person work in with organized team activities cancelled. On top of that, the Dallas Cowboys are still dealing with all the distractions that have come with quarterback Dak Prescott's ongoing contract negotiations.

The situation is hardly an ideal one for new head coach Mike McCarthy as he tries to get Prescott up to speed with the Cowboys' new offensive scheme. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, McCarthy is still confident that it will have little impact on his performance on the field:

“He’s involved in a business situation and I have full confidence that he’ll be ready to go … There has been communication. I mean this is the way these business situations go sometimes. You respect that.”

It is encouraging to see that McCarthy does not appear to be too concerned with the fact that Prescott still has yet to sign the $31.4 million exclusive franchise tag Dallas placed on him. After all, he already has his hands full finding ways to ensure the team is properly prepared for the 2020 NFL season amid the ongoing pandemic.

Although the Cowboys' virtual meetings have come with their own limitations, McCarthy can take solace in the fact that many of the pieces are still in place from last year's high-powered offense. They even managed to make yet another splash by taking wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Of course, expectations remain as high as ever for the Cowboys and the onus will fall on McCarthy to make sure that Prescott continues to provide plenty of bang for his buck, regardless of which deal he is playing under.
