Mike McCarthy did not remain unemployed for long. Dak Prescott got his new coach with the Cowboys.

After sitting out of football for a year, McCarthy was recently named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and is hoping to bring the cornerstone franchise back to the top.

In order to do that, he will need to foster a good relationship with his quarterback, something he struggled to do during his latter days with the Green Bay Packers.

But McCarthy says he has already met with Dak Prescott and is excited to work with him:

“Good,” McCarthy said when asked how the meeting went, according to Nick Eatman of the Cowboys' team website. “He's energetic. And we talked about his plan for the next couple of weeks and what he's going in front of him. I know (offensive coordinator) Kellen (Moore) and (quarterbacks coach) Doug (Nussmeier) also talked to all the quarterbacks.”

Prescott is coming off of the best season of his career, as he threw for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 65.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 99.7.

The 26-year-old was even in the MVP conversation earlier in the year, but that chatter simmered down as the Cowboys faded down the stretch.

Of course, before McCarthy can even officially call Prescott his quarterback for 2020, Prescott and Dallas need to strike a deal first.

Prescott is set to be a free agent this offseason, and while the two sides coming to terms seems like an inevitability, they were not seeing eye-to-eye in contract negotiations going into 2019.
