The Dallas Cowboys put forth a strong defensive performance against the New York Giants on Sunday night, but veteran defensive back Orlando Scandrick suffered a fractured hand in the process of wrapping up the victory.

According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram, Scandrick has stated that he will miss next week's game but will be back for Week 3 action against the Arizona Cardinals.

He will have surgery Monday morning and is expected miss next Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

Scandrick said he should be back for the Sept. 25 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

It is something that team owner Jerry Jones also concurred on, saying Scandrick would only miss the field for one game due to the surgery. This is a minor operation that he believes will not keep him away for an extended period of time.

Scandrick is entering his 10th season with the Cowboys, where he has been a big piece of the puzzle defensively for the team over his career. He has held down one of the starting cornerback spots for over the last several seasons.

It has been tough sledding for Scandrick over the last couple of seasons, as he was sidelined for the entire 2015 due to a torn ACL and MCL and missed four games in the 2016 campaign. His absence throws second-year cornerback Anthony Brown into the starting lineup against the Denver Broncos in Week 2.
