Veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick just wrapped up his 10th season in the league, all spent with the Dallas Cowboys. During this span, he became a featured part of the secondary with the franchise as one of their most dependable cornerbacks.

Scandrick has two more years remaining on his five-year, $19 million deal that will pay him nearly $10.9 million. According to Todd Archer of ESPN, the 31-year-old has reportedly requested to be released by the Cowboys prior to the start of the free agency period on Wednesday afternoon.

Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick has requested his release from the team, according to a source. Scandrick hopes to get into the free-agent market when it opens Wednesday. Cowboys seem to have moved on at corner with Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods and moving Byron Jones there, too.

In 2017, Scandrick played in the first 11 games before suffering two transverse process fractures in his back. He also dealt with a nagging hand injury.

The former Boise State Bronco was then placed on the season-ending injured reserve in late December, officially ending his year. Prior to that, he recorded 38 total tackles with three pass deflections.

If he is able to become a free agent, Scandrick could have a busy market for his services, as he will be one of the better players at his position. He can provide stability to a secondary for another team looking to add a proven and dependable player to the mix.

Releasing Scandrick would give Dallas a $3.8 million cap hit for the 2018 season. The team looks to have moved on from him, especially with Byron Jones reportedly moving from safety to corner. There could be a resolution to this request over the next two days.

Through the first few weeks of the offseason, the Cowboys haven't been active in free agency, with the only true noise being around wide receiver Dez Bryant's contract situation.
