The Dallas Cowboys are just a few days removed from making a huge trade with the acquisition of former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper in exchange for a 2019 first-round selection.

It is a move that had some rumblings about prior to the Cowboys' Week 7 loss to the Washington Redskins. During an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, team owner Jerry Jones indirectly admitted that his lack of availability to the media following that game was due to the team making a push to acquire Cooper, according to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News.

These struggles at the wide receiver position have been quite evident through the year as the team has struggled to have any of their wide receivers step into the No.1 spot in the passing game. Instead, it has been a collective effort that has seen them rely on largely inexperienced wide receivers to provide production. Cole Beasley has continued to prove to be a reliable receiving threat, but the rest of the group such as Allen Hurns, Deontey Thompson, and rookie Michael Gallup haven't been consistent factors in the passing game.

Dallas is in desperate need to find an upgrade at the position this season ranking 29th in passing. The team simply hasn't had a wide receiver that can step up to provide an essence of the presence that either wide receiver Dez Bryant or tight end Jason Witten brought to the table. Cooper has an opportunity in front of him to quickly step into that role with the Cowboys that could see him get back on track to produce at a high level as he did in his first two seasons in the league where he had back-to-back 1,000 receiving yards campaigns earning him a pair of Pro Bowl selections.

Ultimately, only time will tell if this move will work out for Dallas finding their next star wide receiver.
