The Dallas Cowboys have been out to a topsy-turvy start to the 2018 season that has seen plenty of questions arise about quarterback Dak Prescott's future with the franchise.

His inconsistency under center has brought into the discussion his long-term future with the franchise as he will be able to push for a long-term extension as he will be in the fourth year of his rookie contract. With that discussion in mind, team owner Jerry Jones has voiced that he sees Prescott as a potential long-term solution for the Cowboys, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

“I’ve seen him do the things that give you long-term promise for a quarterback,” Jones said Friday on his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan. “He’s extraordinarily diligent in his preparation. He carries preparation as good as anybody I’ve ever seen from the class room to the practice field, and then from the practice field to the game.

Prescott has been able to help push the Cowboys to a fair amount of success, but he hasn't taken that next step as a passer that has been hoped. He has been a stable quarterback that has largely worked toward limiting his mistakes but he hasn't been able to truly lead the team with his arm in any manner.

This has been the case this year as he has passed for 1,447 yards along with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. He did put together a solid outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 40-7 blowout win with 183 passing yards and two touchdowns along with 82 rushing yards and a touchdown. However, this hasn't been something that he has carried over into become the quarterback that can lead the team with his arm. Dallas has largely leaned on the play of star running back Ezekiel Elliott and their offensive line over the last couple of seasons.

Nonetheless, Dak Prescott has an opportunity in front of him to make his mark by leading the Cowboys to more success this season while pushing himself in the conversation toward earning that lucrative next big deal from the franchise after the 2018 campaign.
